Final Ballet Met

I seemed to be in a funk this class because everything that I had drawn seemed not as dynamic as my last time at Ballet Met. I think I was over thinking it because I wanted to render out the dancers more and use lighting as a concept, but instead it made the figures more bulky and stiff again :P

  1. Colleen,
It all starts with the pose and the gesture - the rest is development. To me, what makes some of these less successful is that they are all relatively static poses. You may have been preoccupied with shading and not capturing a dynamic pose. Pages 3 and 5 have the nicest qualities, to me. Just remember with shading - no line fills. Work with the contour. Line fills are fine in a sketchbook - but I think they slow down the fluidity of a gesture. Don't avoid faces, either.
